This piece took over 100 hours- a months work. The 12 artists were to work in the mediums they themselves use. It was a challenge- one I needed , one I had no hesitation in taking. I had numerous ideas and lost a lot of sleep tossing them around. The torsos needed to be about breast cancer "survival"- so I felt the symbolism had to be there. Originally I had a very dark color scheme- a red flower over the one breast- I scrapped that idea as it was around Rememberance Day and I realized the piece was becoming more about the war going on with in. I had visions of mazes - wanting to capture the trapped feeling, the brick walls, the search for escape. My finished piece was nowhere near the initial visions or attempts.... There is a single Lotus flower over the one breast- symbolizing TRIUMPH and LIFE itself. (Thanks Michelle!!)
The body is covered then with lily pads and grasses representing new growth.
The pink ribbon is open- symbolizing the freedom from the disease.
